Leadership Vision

Welcome to our website. We have designed this site to make it easy for you to learn about and access public health programs and services. As a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a part of the health department for the past 30+ years, I have a passion to help everyone in our community live a healthier life. This passion drives what we do at Public Health – Dayton and Montgomery County.

We envision Public Health as “an innovative leader in achieving the highest possible health and well-being for all of our residents.” To achieve this goal we are working with civic, faith-based, medical, educational, philanthropic, and other community leaders to build on the three cornerstones of public health: prevention, promotion, and protection. We educate, motivate, and work to help everyone in our community take action to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

One example of how Public Health is making this happen is through GetUp Montgomery County – a multi-year, countywide initiative to address childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for children and families. GetUp works through community partners reaching out to vulnerable populations to create a culture change. This effort will improve the overall health of our residents and reduce obesity and obesity-related illnesses in our community. This is one of the many ways Public Health is making a real difference in all of our lives.

We know there are consequences for the health-related choices we make as individuals, families and as a community. But we also know external barriers such as poverty, access to transportation and recreation, public safety concerns, or lack of reliable information, can present obstacles to healthier lifestyles. At Public Health – Dayton and Montgomery County, we are committed to addressing, and overcoming, these barriers — and ensuring that Montgomery County is a healthier place to live, learn, work and play.

Public Health in the Community

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW)

NIW April 21st-28th is National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW).

The goal of the Immunization Program is to increase awareness about immunizations across the life span, from infants to the elderly. NIIW is the perfect time to remind family, friends, co-workers, and those in the community to immunize their children, as well as catch up on their own vaccinations.

Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County holds outreach clinics for children each month.
