Corwin M. Nixon WIC Clinic Closed: Clients Can Receive Services
Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County has closed its Corwin Nixon - Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic as a result of reduced funding and increasing costs. Located at 2349 Stanley Avenue, the clinic has served the needs of the community for the past 15 years. All participants at the clinic were notified beginning in June so they would have time to transfer to one of WIC’s four remaining clinics. The Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton, located at Nixon, will not be affected by WIC’s closing.
Tracey Waller, Supervisor of the Montgomery County WIC Program stated, “Our priority is helping children and families. We are doing everything we can to make sure our clients continue to receive the great services they have come to expect and depend upon.” “It has been a smooth transition so far.”
Around 70% of the participants from Nixon have transitioned to the WIC Sunrise clinic at 1320 East Fifth Street. All WIC staff from Nixon have relocated to Sunrise. There has been no interruption in services. The Sunrise clinic has been expanded and renovated to accommodate the growth. The remaining 30% of participants from Nixon are receiving services at the Drew, Salem, and West Carrollton clinics.
