Creating Healthy Communities

This program aims to create healthy communities by reducing the rates of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and chronic lower respiratory disease among Dayton residents by addressing risk factors such as nutrition, physical activity and tobacco use. The program works with communities, schools, worksites, and healthcare professionals to create a plan to reduce risk factors for chronic disease.

Examples of projects include:

  • Helps communities create a plan to reduce chronic disease in their neighborhoods.
  • Helps to make policies and other changes that support healthy food and vending choices, smoke-free spaces, and being more physically active.
  • Trains educators to provide programs in their own schools and communities.
  • Collaborates with City of Dayton and schools to identify the safest routes to school.
  • Provides public information and educational materials on chronic disease.
  • Provides information on local quit smoking programs, weight management programs, and physical activity resources.

Public Health in the Community

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW)

NIW April 21st-28th is National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW).

The goal of the Immunization Program is to increase awareness about immunizations across the life span, from infants to the elderly. NIIW is the perfect time to remind family, friends, co-workers, and those in the community to immunize their children, as well as catch up on their own vaccinations.

Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County holds outreach clinics for children each month.
