Public Health’s leadership team is focused on positioning the organization to allow its workforce and community partners to best reach the goals of public health, preventing the spread of disease, promoting healthy lifestyles, and protecting the environment.
The leadership team guides staff to ensure there is a focus on health equity, collective impact, quality improvement, health outcomes, service delivery, systems management and community engagement.


Montgomery County Health CommissionerJennifer Wentzel, MPH
Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County is lead by Health Commissioner Jennifer Wentzel. Commissioner Wentzel was appointed by the Board of Health in December of 2021.
Commissioner Wentzel is Montgomery County’s 7th Health Commissioner since the merger of the City of Dayton and Montgomery County Health Departments in 1970.
Prior to being selected as Montgomery County Health Commissioner, Wentzel served 7 years as Director of Environmental Health and before that 7 years as a Supervisor in Office of Environmental Health. Her career began at Public Health in 2002 and she has a Masters of Public Health Degree from Wright State University. Wentzel has provided statewide leadership serving 7 years on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Environmental Health Association.
I am honored to be chosen to lead an organization that makes such a positive impact in our community, And I will be dedicated to helping the agency continue to provide outstanding service to its citizens and to further the advancement of health equity in our community.
