Supporting LGBTQ Youth is two full days of training for professionals who serve youth. The Summit is a collaborative effort between Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County, Lighthouse Youth and Family Services, Dayton Children's Hospital, PFLAG Dayton, Daybreak Dayton, and Miami University's Dennis L. Carlson Sexuality Education Studies Center. Attendees will receive comprehensive LGBTQ youth cultural competence/humility training in the morning and in the afternoon connect with local LGBTQ youth-serving organizations that can be ongoing resources in the future.

The Safe and Supported program from Lighthouse Youth and Family Services offers an LGBTQ youth-centered approach to values clarification, school and family safety, review of sexual orientation, gender identity, pronoun usage and other terminology, in addition to advocacy and support, allyship, and resilience. The training will be provided in two parts: Part 1 on Monday and Part 2 on Tuesday for a total of 7 hours and 5.5 CEU credits for social workers and nurses. Attendees must attend both days to obtain the CEUs. A box lunch will be provided both days.
At Checkout: Attendees also should choose two workshops each afternoon (one at 2 - 3 pm and one at 3 - 4 pm each day).
Afternoon workshops offered both days: (additional CEUs may be available for some workshops).
Public Health has a focus on LGBTQ health initiatives to better serve and affirm the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community (LGBTQ). LGBTQ youth, in general, experience higher prevalence of mental/behavioral health issues, substance abuse, bullying, self-harm and suicidality often due to stigma and discrimination. The Summit will provide comprehensive LGBTQ youth cultural competence and humility training while also connecting attendees with local resources that can help support them with care giving in the future.
