LGBTQ+ Resources

Many LGBTQ+ people are at increased risk for several health conditions when compared to our heterosexual and cisgender peers. These health disparities are associated with social and structural inequities, such as the stigma and discrimination that LGBTQ+ people experience, medical and behavioral health practitioners not trained to be culturally aware, and lack of basic education about our bodies and practicing sexual health and wellness.

Intersectionality

Kimberlé Crenshaw, law professor and social theorist, first coined the term intersectionality in 1989. Intersectionality is a framework for conceptualizing a person, group of people, or social problem as affected by several discriminations and disadvantages. It considers people’s overlapping identities and experiences to understand the complexity of prejudices they face (YWCA, 2017).
