Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County and Montgomery County Juvenile Court are pleased to announce that the Helping Adolescents Achieve Long-term Objectives (HAALO) mural project is having a Community Mural Dedication in the city of Trotwood on Tuesday, June 12 at 3:00 pm at “The Warehouse at Broadway & East Main.”
HAALO is a program that connects young people involved with Montgomery County Juvenile Court to arts programming through a partnership with K12 Gallery. This project was made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio Department of Health and is being sponsored by The Home Depot and Behr Paint.
Presenting at the mural dedication will be Mayor of the City of Trotwood, Mary McDonald, Health Commissioner, Jeff Cooper, Montgomery County Juvenile Court Judge Anthony Capizzi, and Trotwood-Madison City Schools Superintendent, Tyrone Olverson.
The warehouse at Broadway and East Main Street now displays a new mural that urges the community to have a healthy lifestyle. The design was created by students from Trotwood High School’s STAND Team, K12 & TEJAS Gallery, along with Brittini Long, Community Engagement Coordinator with Montgomery County Juvenile Court and Bruce Barcelo, Healthy Lifestyles Supervisor with Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County.
“We are proud of the great work being taken on by our court staff to not only help beautify the local community, but to also engage our youth in prosocial programming while doing so,” said Montgomery County Juvenile Court Judge Anthony Capizzi. “Our staff is continuously looking for ways our court-involved youth can give back to the community and this is just another example of their efforts.”
“It’s been a great experience to see the impact of this healthy lifestyle message in Trotwood,” explains Bruce Barcelo, Healthy Lifestyles Supervisor, Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County. “Every time I’ve been at the mural, cars have honked to show their support and encouragement. We invite the community to come out and celebrate the dedication of the mural with us on the 12th.”
