New Healthy Corner Store Kick-off Presented by Good Food Here

Initiative Provides Low-income Neighborhoods Access to Healthier Foods

July 19, 2016

The Food Mart at 1413 North Main Street in Dayton is the latest addition to the Good Food Here - Healthy Corner Store initiative of Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County. A “healthy corner store” is a corner store or convenience store offering healthier foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, low-sodium canned goods, low-fat dairy options, and whole grains. The availability of healthy food choices can help low-income neighborhoods with limited access to public and private transportation that often rely on corner stores as their main grocer.

A kickoff event highlighting Food Mart’s commitment to offering healthier food choices to residents in the community is scheduled for July 22 from 11 am to 2 pm. Local residents are invited to join Public Health for this fun and healthy event. Public Health will have food demonstrations, offer free taste testing of fresh produce recipes, and will provide healthy recipes.

The Good Food Here - Healthy Corner Store initiative is an initiative of Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County and is funded by the Communities Preventing Chronic Disease grant.
