The Baby & Me - Tobacco Free Program is a smoking cessation program aims to reduce the use of tobacco products among women during and after their pregnancy.

- Introduction:
Public Health licenses and inspects body art establishments including tattoo and body piercing facilities within the county to ensure compliance with state and local regulations. Inspectors verify requirements for operator and artist training along with the use of equipment to eliminate the potential for bloodborne disease transmission. In 2022, PHDMC conducted over 160 inspections at more than 110 Body Art/Tattoo operations.

- Introduction:
The Campground and Recreational Vehicle Park program supervises the licensing and inspection of all Recreation Camp, Recreational Vehicle (RV) Park, Combined Park-Camp and temporary Campground Operations. Public Health inspects the design, operation, safety, and maintenance of items. In 2022, Public Health conducted 14 campground and RV park inspections in the 7 licensed campgrounds.

- Introduction:
The goal of CarePoint is to play a role in reducing the transmission of HIV, Hepatitis C and other blood-borne infections associated with the sharing of drug injection equipment. CarePoint provides a one-to-one syringe exchange program and linkage to addiction services.

- Introduction:
The Children with Special Healthcare Needs (CMH) program helps pay for medical expenses for children with special healthcare needs. A wide variety of diagnoses are medically eligible for the CMH treatment program and we encourage you to contact Public Health to discuss eligibility.
The program provides case management and service coordination for families with children who have special healthcare needs and are residents of Ohio.
A Public Health Nurse (PHN) is assigned to work closely with a family to help identify some of the family needs, or a child’s diagnostic or medical treatment needs. The local PHN can connect families with Pediatric Specialists and with other assistance programs such as Help Me Grow, and Job and Family Services, while also continuing to provide CMH case management.

The Communicable Disease Program helps to stop the spread of disease in our community by tracking and investigating infectious diseases, providing guidance and monitoring to affected individuals, and providing information regarding the spread of disease to other Public Health programs.
Communicable Disease reports are created by Public Health’s epidemiology program and are designed to provide current and historical information about disease in our community. These reports are used by Public Health programs, healthcare providers, local governments, and community partners to help inform their decision-making process when it comes to improving health outcomes.

The Construction and Demolition Debris Program inspects all open and closed construction and demolition debris landfills within Montgomery County to ensure that disposal is protective of the environment and the public’s health.

- Introduction:
According to the Ohio American Academy of Pediatrics, 3 infants die each week in Ohio in unsafe sleep areas. Cribs for Kids seeks to reduce that number by providing WIC-eligible families and expecting mothers with a free pack ‘n play for their baby. Families will also receive important information about the ABCs of safe sleep so they can reduce their baby’s risk of a sleep-related death.

Collect and analyze health-related data and information pertaining to the county’s residents and neighborhoods in the form of reports and presentations. - Introduction:
Every Parent Matters is a home visiting program for dads that encourages fathers’ participation by offering separate home visits as well as joint home visits with the mothers. The program uses an evidence-based curriculum, which is designed with a hands-on approach to meet the specific needs of fathers.

- Introduction:
EveryOne Reach One’s goal is to increase the number of babies that reach their first birthday and improve the health of pregnant mothers. Using a community-wide collaborative approach to combat Infant Mortality the coalition will develop strategies to combat preterm births, educate mothers and fathers about how to keep their babies healthy before and after birth and develop interventions to improve social and economic conditions in the community that lead to poor birth outcomes.

Infant mortality continues to be a significant problem for Montgomery County families. The best way to learn how to address the many issues facing these families is to learn from these families directly. This program gives families the opportunity to share their story of infant loss or stillbirth so our community can learn from their experiences and prevent other losses like these from happening.

- Introduction:
The Montgomery County Food Equity Coalition is a countywide initiative which aims to support a food system that ensures everyone, no matter their race, income, or ability, can access and afford a basic healthy diet. There are six teams addressing various parts of our food system: food insecurity, healthy people, sustainable ecosystems, vibrant farms, thriving local economy, and strong communities.

- Introduction:
The Food Operation Inspection Service supervises the licensing and inspection of all restaurants, grocery stores, vending machines, mobile food operations, and temporary food operations. We conduct reviews of all new and remodeled facilities within the county.

- Introduction:
The HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs concentrate on reducing transmission in Darke, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Clark and Greene Counties. Free anonymous and confidential HIV testing is provided.

The Transient Accommodation Program provides the licensing and inspection of all Montgomery County hotels and motels. Public Health inspects over 7,600 rooms to assure that all visitors will have a safe and sanitary accommodation, free of nuisance conditions.

The Mosquito and Vector Disease Control program protects Montgomery County from mosquito-borne diseases. Through regular trapping and species identification, the local mosquito population is monitored, tested, and controlled.

The Ohio Equity Institute is a grant funded program by the Ohio Department of Health, that allows Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County to develop strategies that will help decrease infant mortality, especially among African American/Black infants. Plumbing Inspection ensures that all plumbing installed during construction of a new or renovated building is installed by knowledgeable craftsmen in accordance with applicable codes. Properly installed plumbing systems protect the public’s health.

The Private Water System Program ensures that private wells are designed and installed under permit and in accordance with state and local regulations.
A permit is required when a new water system is installed or when an existing system is upgraded, altered or abandoned and sealed. Minor repairs to existing systems do not require a permit. However, older systems with substandard construction (pit construction, buried wellheads, etc.) are required to be upgraded when repair work is performed, and that upgrade does require a permit.

Public Health’s Recovery Services program can help you or your loved ones begin the path to recovery from substance use or gambling disorders.
Substance misuse and gambling addiction affect the lives of many people, from youth to senior citizens. Broken promises, family and relationship problems, absenteeism, job loss, bankruptcy, poor grades, school suspensions, and legal problems are common.
Our Recovery team brings their lived experience to help understand the problems people have, and offer to help you break the cycle of addiction and take control of your life.

- Introduction:
Refugees are people who fear being persecuted and escape or are forced to leave their country. Catholic Social Services, Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, and Public Health work closely to assure the best services are given to each refugee. Refugees come to Dayton through the US State Departments Relocation Program.
Public Health screens refugees within 30 - 90 days of arrival to help identify any medical barriers and treat any immediate health issues. During the screening, the refugees watch a video in their language to introduce them to the U.S. healthcare system.

Research is an essential public health function, and Public Health - Dayton Montgomery County (Public Health) supports the role of research in innovation, and continuous quality improvement in public health practices. The Research Review Committee will evaluate research to be done in partnership with Public Health employees, or using Public Health data and resources. The committee will determine whether the proposed research is feasible within the limitations of available Public Health resources.

School Health Services are provided to 16 private, parochial and charter schools in Montgomery County. Schools may contract for a school nurse on a part-time or full-time basis or one-time only to perform mandatory screenings.

Public Health’s Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic provides patient evaluation, laboratory testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. HIV testing, including rapid testing, is also available. The Public Health STD Lab supports the clinic by providing quick results while patients wait. Some results require more time to complete.

The Swimming Pool and Spa program consists of licensing and inspecting all public and municipal swimming pools, whirlpools, and special use pools within the county. We inspect the operation, safety, and maintenance of items, as well as water quality parameters of clarity, alkalinity, chlorine levels, and overall pH.
