• Subline Title: Provides Funding of $15,400 for the Installation of Benches and Shade Structure

Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County’s Chronic Disease Prevention program (Public Health) has partnered with the City of Dayton to enhance Liberation Park with the addition of two new benches and a shade structure. Liberation Park is located at the corner of N. Broadway St. and Superior Ave. in Dayton.

This initiative, funded by the Ohio Department of Health through the Creating Healthy Communities Grant, aims to improve park safety and provide a more comfortable, welcoming space for residents.

The new benches and shade structure are strategically located near the park’s playground and basketball courts. This provides a protected area for families to relax and supervise their children while enjoying the outdoors. By creating a more inviting atmosphere, the improvements encourage residents to spend more time outside, which promotes physical activity and social connection.

"This project is a great example of how community feedback can lead to positive change," said Jennifer Wentzel, Health Commissioner, Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County. "We know that a welcoming park can reduce stress, encourage physical activity, and foster a sense of belonging among neighbors."

Before the project began, Public Health gathered feedback from residents through surveys and community listening sessions. The feedback revealed a strong desire for more seating and shade, especially during the hot summer months. Residents expressed that having these amenities would make them more likely to use the park and playground.

Public Health would like to thank the Ohio Department of Health, the City of Dayton’s Public Works, Civil Engineering, and Planning, Neighborhoods, & Development departments for their collaboration on this project.
